Cooking: what if a roast is interrupted?

Self-tutoring about cooking: the tutor mentions re-roasting an underdone roast.

I was cooking a roast last night, but an emergency came up, so I had to take it out early: it was not even cooked to “rare”. (It had been roasting about an hour.) I couldn’t put it back in the oven for about 35 minutes.

I wondered how long to re-roast it for, but reasoned I had to cook it full-time again, as it had probably near-completely cooled during those 35 minutes. Therefore, I put it back in for the same duration as if it were raw. It turned out fine.
