Food: carrot tops: edible?

Self-tutoring about food and nutrition: the tutor mentions carrot tops.

This year a few carrots have arrived in the garden. My wife likes freshly-harvested carrots, so I pulled a few from the ground and brought them in for her.

What I hadn’t though of, but immediately faced me, was what to do with the beautiful carrot tops. I’ve never known anyone to eat them, yet, could one? It seemed a shame to throw them out, if they could be used.

It turns out that carrot tops are edible. Having verified the idea from a couple of sources, I tried one. Suffering no ill effects, I ate a few more the next day.

To me, carrot tops have a spicy taste, perhaps a bit like celery but also a bit like parsley.

I believe in eating a variety of foods and making maximum use of produce, so I am pleased to add carrot tops to the list.
