Gardening: black-eyed susan

Self-tutoring about gardening: the tutor mentions an arrival in the garden.

I planted a mix of wildflowers in the garden back, as I recall, in late April. Few seemed to appear. However, some suddenly have, including black-eyed susans.

With their yellow petals, dark brown centers, and leaves that are stalked at the bottom but less so towards the top, their identification as black-eyed susans seems beyond question. I’d say the plant height, as of now, to be about knee level.

I’ve heard of black-eyed susans from childhood, but these are the first I’ve recognized as such.

I’m noticing other wildflowers in the garden, as well, which I hope to identify and mention in future posts.
