Gardening: mint: shade tolerant?

I picked up some mint a few years back and hastily planted it in a sunny spot in the yard. It’s survived, but never really thrived. I’ve wondered why.

Lately, I’ve been wondering what to plant in a shady spot of the yard. Casual reading suggested maybe mint could do well there. It seems to make sense, given it’s not done well in the sunny place.

It turns out, apparently, that mint might prefer some shade.
