Gardening: volunteers: identification
Self-tutoring about gardening: the tutor notices an abundant volunteer in the beds. What is it?
Doing some planting last night, I finally noticed some volunteer plants in a few locations. In one, they are particularly abundant, with dozens sprouting.
I thought they might be pumpkin, but my wife doesn’t recall having pumpkins last Halloween. The other candidates seem to be sunflower or cucumber.
We eat a lot of cucumbers. Every once in a while, one goes bad in the fridge. Since we compost all vegetable waste, they could be cucumber plants.
I grew sunflowers a few years, but I don’t recall whether I did so last year. If so, that might just as likely be what the volunteers are.
I will keep you posted:)
