Geography: how far is Old World from New World?

Self-tutoring about geography: the tutor mentions a distance comparison.

The following is according to my understanding.

I mention in my post from July 30, 2022, that Brazil is further east than Newfoundland. Yet, how close is Brazil to Africa, relatively speaking?

The distance between Natal, Brazil, and Monrovia, Liberia, is 3025 km. By comparison, the distance from Vancouver to Toronto is 3359 km.

So, believe it or not, South America is closer to Africa than Vancouver is to Toronto. Interesting, eh?
