Health: adaptive movement
Self-tutoring about the body’s response to injury: the tutor mentions adaptive movement.
I’ve had a knee injury for a month. It’s improved, then gotten re-injured, several times. Each time it bounced back a little more quickly. Thankfully, I walk on it, now, without limping.
Last week I noticed that I wasn’t limping, yet my gait was abnormal (for me). The leg had adjusted the way it moved to ease the pressure on that knee. While it was abnormal, it worked. I found the idea fascinating.
Many times in life I’ve heard, referring to a well-used car or hardware, “Just use it this way and it will work…but if you use it that way, it will break.” Perhaps joints of the human body can be favoured in the same way in order to maintain use.
