Health: trans fat: why it’s a problem
Self-tutoring about diet and health: the tutor looks into the hazards of trans fat.
To appreciate why trans fat is seen as hazardous, it’s helpful to know the two types of cholesterol, ldl and hdl. As I understand, ldl, the “bad” cholesterol, can accumulate inside arteries; ultimately, this can impair circulation. Hdl, on the other hand, is the “good” cholesterol: it brings ldl from the arteries to the liver, to be metabolized.
Apparently, trans fat promotes ldl and reduces hdl.
