Home computer use: BIOS auto updates?

Self-tutoring about one’s PC: the tutor mentions something he noticed.

The following is according to my understanding.

This morning I was comparing the system information of two computers we bought back in August 2022. (Why I was comparing them, well, that’s for another post.)

I noticed with one, that the BIOS date is from 2020. I’m not too surprised, since I’ve never updated it.

Yet, on the other, the BIOS date is July 2023, which is about a year after we purchased it. Moreover, I’m pretty sure I’ve never updated the BIOS on that device.

It turns out that Windows Update can update the BIOS automatically on a device with Windows 11. It’s not something I would interfere with, since I find Windows 11 works very well.
