Lifestyle: New Year’s resolutions

Self-tutoring about one of my favourite topics: the tutor begins about New Year’s 2020.

As a kid I heard adults mentions New Year’s resolutions – that was in the Maritimes. Here on the West Coast, I seldom hear about them. When I ask someone about theirs, they typically say they’ve none – unless they, too, are from the East.

The first question that develops: are West Coast people less interested in New Year’s resolutions, or have Easterners abandoned them too, since I left.

Well, not everyone’s abandoned the idea, apparently: I read a post today at govexec.com that suggests New Year’s resolutions remain a worldwide custom, and that they are worth commitment.

A point the article makes is that, for a resolution to take hold, its maker needs to envision true benefit from it – not only to themselves, but to others around them: being a better “you” will benefit your whole environment.

I hope to follow up about the philosophy and practice of New Year’s resolutions.
