Lifestyle: yard work

The tutor shares observations from an afternoon’s yard chores.

In my experience, yard work is similar to exercise or even dishes. While one can hardly ever “finish” it, one can advance it along so that next time, it’s not crushing.

About 4:20pm I started in the yard. One of my chores was winterizing; I had to put the deck furniture into storage and install a sandbag in the barbecue (so the winter winds don’t lift it and dump it over). I also cleaned up remnants of the fall trimmings and put them in a compost bag for pickup. The time left I spent weeding. At about 5:30, darkness overtook me; I could no longer spot the weeds.

Out in the yard today, I never saw the sun; the sky was firmly overcast. The temp was mild; eventually I had to shed my coat and hat while weeding. I’d have said 10°C, while weather.gc.ca reports 8°C.

Whatever the temp actually was, the conditions outdoors were very pleasant. As darkness fell, it was easy to feel well and content. I’m hoping everyone else felt the same.
