Marine geography: lagoon

Self-tutoring about marine geography: the tutor mentions a definition of lagoon.

A lagoon is a separate body of water right next to a larger one, but distinct from it due to a land boundary that is narrow. The boundary might be a beach, a coral reef, or even a ribbon of land.

The lagoon needn’t be isolated from its larger neighbour; there can be flow between them via a passage.
