Mechanics: penetrating oil test

Self-tutoring about mechanics: the tutor mentions a great resource.

Trying to unstick a bolt – see my posts about it here and here – I was using WD-40 as penetrating oil. Since the process was taking so long, during a break I checked the Internet for perhaps a better penetrating oil than WD-40. That’s when I found this great resource from Project Farm on YouTube.

The video shows true application of scientific method, including, importantly, the use of a control group. At around eleven and a half minutes long, it’s jam-packed with information. A couple of interesting observations are that Gibbs seems to win for best loosening performance of a stuck bolt, and that waiting 24 hours helped all three tested penetrating oils work better.
