Philosophy: outdated posters
Self-tutoring about philosophy and media: the tutor mentions posters that remain past their event.
Very seldom do I go to posted events. Even so, the posters which advertise them, hung up in corridors or the atria of buildings, sometimes catch my attention.
To me, the posters themselves represent possibilities. Some of the events advertised look promising; in another life, if I had time, I might consider going to them. This contemplation would often arrive with me when I was attending university; yet, seldom would my homework allow me to attend an event. Even so, it was good to know those events were happening for those who could go to them.
Sometimes I notice a poster whose occasion is already past. Yet, it still hangs there. The subtle suggestion might be that, in some way, there remains potential to take up the offer of the event. Yet, how? Moreover, why are some posters never seen again once their event has passed, while others linger days or even weeks afterwards? I don’t believe that it’s always the one who puts up the poster who takes it down.
These are contemplations of an old academic walking in a building outside of its busy hours, when one needn’t keep alert to find one’s way through a stream of others.
