Philosophy: perceptions, part 0: fresh stock

Self-tutoring about perceptions: the tutor begins about how people see things.

I’ve been told, time and again, that consumers will more likely buy something from a full shelf than one with only a few left – even if they want just one. Yet, I had a friend years ago who saw it the other way.

“If I see the shelves get depleted, then I know they buy fresh stock,” he commented. This was important to him, so he preferred stores that “ran out” of things once in a while, for that reason.

I’m sure he wasn’t the first person to think that way, but he’s the only person I’ve heard explain that point of view.

Interesting, eh?
