Philosophy: what is a witch?

Self-tutoring about Halloween and traditions: the tutor looks into the definition of “witch.”

Traditionally, the reason people have been afraid of witches, as I understand, isn’t because they’re scary or evil. Rather, it’s because of the belief that witches can manipulate people: the “magic” people fear is control the witch can gain over a person’s mind. Witches are thought to access this power from a supernatural entity, or perhaps by harvesting it from the environment; either way, it’s thought that non-witches can’t do so.
