Plumbing: unclogging a bathtub, part 1: drain cover removal

Self-tutoring about plumbing: the tutor mentions a bathtub situation.

I have had to use drain opener on a shower drain before, because a lot of hair goes down that drain. The drain cleaner works great, used as directed.

Today, a bathtub wasn’t draining. The drain cleaner isn’t meant, it seems, to touch the trim around the drain, so I had to remove the metal drain cover, which is a screw-down type. Sensing it wouldn’t just reverse-twist from the drain, I had to look up how to remove it, which I found here. As it turns out, the cover I was facing is the kind with a side-release screw underneath.

Once I had the cover off, I didn’t end up using drain opener, but did get the drain open. That’s for another post:)
