Psychology: denial: when it helps?

Denial can have the function of avoiding acceptance of a threat until your mind has subconsciously prepared you for it. In a healthy person, denial is a shock absorber. Denial is only functional, however, if it’s temporary. A week or a month later, you’re meant to face the truth, however troubling. Nobody said it would be easy.
