Psychology: situational awareness
Self-tutoring about psychology: the tutor mentions situational awareness.
Nowadays, among pedestrians, one often encounters individuals who are part of a group, but will thread their way into another. It’s an odd habit, because it fragments their group, as well as the one in which they insert themselves. If you look at them, they usually have the zombie stare.
I seem to recall that, in the 70s and 80s, this was much rarer. People back then saw letting a few people pass, as well as keeping their own group together, as good manners. Nowadays, there seems no connection between navigating a busy area and manners.
You might believe that people who grew up in the 70s and 80s are a little more aware of this situation; they are. However, in a crowd nowadays, gen-Xers aren’t very numerous. Therefore, navigating a crowd can be challenging, especially if you want to be polite.
