Social studies: Marshall McLuhan: “The Medium is the Message”

Self-tutoring about culture: the tutor opines about a quote he heard as a child.

I read “The Medium is the Message” in a textbook in middle school. For decades I had no interpretation of it. Eventually my sister gave me a T-shirt from a McLuhan symposium. Yet, meaning of “The Medium is the Message” escaped me.

What I think it means now? People look at the person or institution giving the message and decide what they expect from that source. That’s what they hear when the source starts communicating.
