Weather: abnormally cold?

Self-tutoring about the weather: the tutor mentions the cold last night.

Yesterday evening I left the house to get hot dog buns at the nearby store. I always walk there: it’s less than 1 km away. As I prepared to leave it was dark, maybe around 7pm.

I suspected it was cold outside, so opened the door to check if I needed a hat: it was cold indeed. I was a little surprised just how cold, as I walked up. I’d no complaints: it was a beautiful night, with the moon and stars out, the air bracingly fresh. Yet I wondered: Is it normal to be this cold now?

This morning I checked the weather: -5C at 7am. I was surprised, once again, by the degree of cold, given the time of year. In fact, the page seems to suggest that the lowest temp for October 25 of previous recorded years is -2.8C, which happened in ’78.

Therefore, I guess the weather is colder than usual for this time of year.
