Web browsers: the Horse browser

Self-tutoring about web browsers: the tutor mentions Horse.

The following is according to my understanding.

My arrival at the Horse browser website was, to quote Bob Ross, a “happy accident.” I was surprised I hadn’t heard of it before, then decided it’s a fascinating topic, from an academic point of view.

The Horse browser’s utility seems to be its concept of maintaining what its creator refers to as the “trail” – that is, the sequence of pages on the way to the current one – in a side pane. As its creator explains, the user doesn’t need a Back button, since they can see links to the pages, in order, that led to them to their current one. Therefore, it seems that the user can return anywhere on the way to their current page with one click.

The creator, Pascal Pixel, gives a very short intro and demo of Horse in this video, on YouTube. Pascal is an engaging presenter, and conveys the utility of the Horse browser in under two minutes.

I haven’t downloaded the Horse browser, so I can’t talk about experience with it as a user. The idea behind it is what intrigues me, as a researcher and also as a neurodivergent person.

For anyone curious about the Horse browser, a link to its home page is here.
