West Coast Lifestyle: fear of rain

Self-tutoring about west coast perspectives: the tutor mentions an amusing one.

This summer featured several heat warnings, numerous runs of days with the humidex above 30°C, and almost no rain. It’s rained here, about three times, this past week; before that, I can’t even recall when it did. I’ve heard there are forest fires somewhere not far; therefore, smoke was an air quality issue recently. Suffice it to say, we’ve had virtually no rain this summer, and we could use a lot.

Yesterday, after the rain, I heard two ladies walking by: “I hope it doesn’t rain on us tomorrow,” one of them said. That’s just the west coast thinking, for many people: after an hour of rain, they’re tired of it, and want to turn the sun back on from a dial on the wall.
