Yard work: 1000 dandelions?
Self-tutoring about yard work: the tutor mentions a discovery.
With projects I’ve been working on, I’ve not been weeding as perhaps I should. Lately I’ve tackled it, and have mostly done it, but there’s still a patch to do.
Yesterday, in the midst of weeding, I estimated I’d pulled many hundreds of dandelions. Looking around at those remaining, I fancied there might have been, before I’d started, 1000 in the yard.
“Oh, that’s silly,” I retorted internally. “You’ve lost track of how many you’ve pulled; likely you’re exaggerating.”
I took a rough survey of the area, deciding it to be perhaps 120 square yards. Then, I reasoned, there would need to be 9 dandelions per square metre to make 1080 in the yard. I easily noticed many places where there were 15 dandelions or more per square metre. So there it is: indeed, there likely were over 1000 dandelions in the yard.
Interestingly, the area I’ve yet to do is less than half, but the thickest with dandelions.
BTW: I always pull the weeds with a hand tool.
