Animals: why do you see so many in the city?
Self-tutoring about animals: the tutor makes observations and reflections.
I’ve lived in rural and urban places, and had interesting sightings in both. However, one fact seems ironic: I’ve seen the greater variety of animals in cities. Moreover, it seems easier to see an animal in the city when it lives both there and also in the country. Why might that be?
One idea I’ve arrived at is that humans and animals tend to prefer the same places. Therefore, animals that can get away with it are willing to tolerate humans to live in the city.
Another idea is that many types of animals are attracted to landscapes humans create. Those animals are often prey animals, so they draw predators at least to the perimeter of the city, if not further in.
I’m not the only one to notice animals in the city.
