Biology: cutworm: larva and pupa

Self-tutoring about cutworms: the tutor mentions two of their life stages.

Researching cutworms, I encountered the terms “larva” and “pupa.”

The larval stage of the cutworm, as I understand, is the one gardeners fear. It’s the caterpillar one that eats plants, including stems of new seedlings.

The pupal stage, on the other hand, seems to be a passive state during which a lavae changes to a moth. It seems it’s typically reddish-brown in colour; I’ve seen a few in the garden over the years, not knowing what they were.
