Canadian politics: the Freeland resignation: actual breaking news
Self-tutoring about Canadian politics: the tutor mentions today’s resignation of Chrystia Freeland.
Apparently, Chrystia Freeland resigned her post today as Minister of Finance. I’m surprised, and perhaps a little impressed. Whichever way one sees it, it’s important news, especially since she’s also the Deputy Prime Minister.
Freeland, apparently, is a Westerner, from Peace River, Alberta. (Once again, I’m surprised, and impressed.) My understanding is that she’s been Trudeau’s right hand for quite some time. In the House of Commons, her riding is University-Rosedale, where she’s always won by a safe margin.
In her resignation, Freeland opines that she no longer has the full confidence of the Prime Minister, hence her resignation.
Some people believe Freeland will eventually win the Liberal leadership, and could even be the next PM. However, she can be patient; she’s only a little older than I am. One hopes, therefore, that she has lots of road left:)
