Geography: Iraq, part 1

Self-tutoring about Iraq: the tutor mentions its northern, eastern, and southern borders.

Iraq is “mostly broad plains” (cia.gov), with mountains to the north (border with Turkey) and east (Iran). Its extreme southeastern border with Iran, starting from about 10 km east of Basrah, is the Shatt al-Arab (called Arvand Rud in Iran), which is the river formed by the confluence of the Tigris and Euphrates: it forms the border until the Persian Gulf, about 80km downstream. Just west from there, Iraq has a southern border with Kuwait, about 250km.
