Geography: the Tigris and Euphrates, part 0

Self-tutoring about two of the most prominent rivers in human history: the tutor mentions the Tigris and Euphrates.

Some interesting facts about the Tigris and Euphrates I learned today:

  1. They both begin in Turkey.
  2. They flow generally southeast, roughly parallel with each other.
  3. They join (I had no idea!) about 200km above the Persian Gulf, at Al- Qurnah.
  4. The river they form at their junction is called Shatt al-Arab in Iraq, but Arvand Rud in Iran.

I plan to follow up:)
