Home computer use: .crdownload files
Self-tutoring about file types: the tutor mentions a new one he’s encountered.
Downloading a zip file, I thought it was done, so opened the downloads folder. There were two new ones – unconfirmed_[some digits].crdownload as well as the_file.zip.
Naturally I wondered what unconfirmed_[some digits].crdownload could be. I looked it up at howtogeek.com, a source I’m always happy to check with. Better yet, the article about it is very recent, from September 2, 2020.
Apparently .crdownload is a file type used by Chrome to refer to a download in progress. Later, when the download completes, its name will change to what it really is. Yet, the unexpected can occur, leaving the .crdownload file.
Since the download had completed (the actual zip file I wanted was also present in the downloads folder), I went to delete the .crdownload one, but received a message saying that, in fact, it’s not there. I closed the downloads file, then opened it back up – sure enough, the .crdownload file is gone.
Thanks, Chris:)
