Retrospect, nature: whose calls were they?

Self-tutoring about nature in Nova Scotia: the tutor reflects on a memory.

I recall, as a kid in the Annapolis Valley, the woods behind our house would erupt with high-pitched calls in the spring. To me, it kind of sounded like crickets, but I was told it was frogs. It made sense: there was a great expanse of swamp in those woods.

Yet, what particular frog was it? By the volume of calls, it seemed there must be thousands of them.

From research, I’ve developed an idea that it may have been two different species making those calls: the spring peeper and the American toad.
