Word: format painter
Self-tutoring about using Microsoft Word: the tutor mentions using the format painter.
The format painter is the paintbrush that appears in the Home menu of Word. On the version I use, it’s in the top left corner. It’s a great feature, and easy to use.
The format painter is used to apply a selected format elsewhere. To do so, one selects the part with the desired format, clicks the format painter, then selects the part desired to be formatted the same way.
The format painter I find very helpful, especially for such things as applying hanging indents to multiple entries in a References list at the end of a paper.
In my experience, one can chain the use of the format painter: Once it’s been used to transform a selection to the desired formatting, that selection can become a source of formatting for the next one. Therefore, the format painter can be clicked again, then the next area selected to apply the formatting, and so on.
