Consumer education: product origins and labeling in Canada, part 1

Self-tutoring about when a product is labeled as being from Canada: the tutor mentions some details.

I’m always happy to see “Made in Canada” or even “Made in USA” on products. That’s because I think we should produce things here, and because I have high hopes that Canada and the USA will be partners again after this current nonsense.

“Product of Canada” seems to be something I see less often. I wasn’t aware of a difference between “Made in Canada” and “Product of Canada”, but it seems there is one that’s particularly defined. “Made in Canada” suggests fifty-one percent up to ninety-eight of the cost to produce the item happens in Canada. Ninety-eight percent and above: “Product of Canada.”

Perhaps, therefore, “Product of Canada” is what one might hope for, while “Made in Canada”, more than halfway there.

Such is my understanding.
