Nearly 25 years ago, I read the trilogy The Civil War by Shelby Foote. That war was immense, and changed the world in ways not commonly known.
General Nathan Bedford Forrest was a Southerner (Confederate), of course, and remains a controversial figure. Yet, his sentiment above tells engagement that, as a parent, I try to reach.
Forrest was wounded four times in the war.
