Nature: Vancouver Island frog calls in spring: who is it?
Self-tutoring about spring calls from frogs at night-time: the tutor mentions a possible caller from west coast swamps.
I mention, back in my post from April 9, about hearing frog and toad calls from the woods in springtime in the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia. I suspect I might have been hearing the spring peeper along with the American toad, there and then.
On Vancouver Island, one hears something very similar at night from swamps in the springtime. Yet, it seems that neither the American toad nor the spring peeper lives on Vancouver Island. So, in this case, who is making the calls?
Research suggests to me that, on Vancouver Island, the calls are from the Pacific treefrog.
